WEEK OF April 18:

SATURDAY:
Downers Grove South (12-2-1) won 5-2 over Palatine in Naperville Invitational play, with Sarrah Ludwig and Megan Martin both scoring twice and assisting on a goal, Brittany Dietz scoring in the win, and Jessica Bronke adding an assist.

Plainfield Central (6-6-1) won 6-1 over Joliet Central, getting two goals from Shawna Watson in the win.

Oswego East (8-4-1) lost 4-3 in the title game of this year's Lake Park Invitational in Roselle. Brenna Risch scored the Wolves first unassisted goal in the first half, while Carli Schlaker scored her own unassisted goal to tie the game 2-2 leading into halftime.  The Wolves final goal was scored by Megan Ross, assisted by Brittany Brewer. Keeper Hannah Gargrave made 7 saves in the loss.

Glenbard East (7-5-3) took second place in the Niles West Tournament on Saturday. The Rams won their division with three consecutive wins over Resurrection (5-1), Maine West (2-1), and Northside Prep (4-0). East was led by Lindsey Paganucci with 4 goals and 2 assists, Erin Mrazek with 2 goals and 2 assists, Jessie Grumstrup with 3 assists, and Sadie Moore with 3 goals. The Rams lost in the finals (2-0) to Highland Park in their third game of the day.

West Chicago (8-3-3) won 1-0 over Batavia on an Andie Lazzerini goal in West Chicago in the game's final two minutes. Coach Cesar Gomez: "We started with a good energy level, played against the wind in the firstg half, and we got a little lucky at the end of the half when Kelsey (Myers) made a great save to keep us scoreless. We did a better job possessing the ball against a very good Batavia team in the second half. Meagan (Radloff) was covered by two defenders the whole game and in the last two minutes she got free on a Bianca (Navejas) through pass and a beautiful ball to Lazzerini who just needed to push it over the goal line to beat a very good goalie. I'm proud of how everyone played today, but I have to tip my hat off to Sarita Opel, she is playing with tons of heart."

Crystal Lake South (9-6-2) went 3-1 in this year's Glenbrook South tournament, winning 2-1 over Buffalo Grove, 6-0 over University High, and 3-0 over Bradford (Kenosha), before losing a shootout to host Glenbrook South in the tournament title game. Mackenzie Taldone scored against Buffalo Grove on an assist from Cella Albuquerque and Ellen Brunner won the game by burying a free kick with 14 seconds left in the game. Brunner scored and assisted in the win over Bradford, Christina Szocka scored twice, and Taldone had an assist in the win. In the win over University High of Chicago, the Gators got goals from Faith Brunner, Szocka, Albuquerque, Emily Schoenfeldt, Alex Romano, and Audrey Collard, three assists from Kali Loescher, and an assist apiece from Schoenfeldt, Karli Schumaker, and Audrey Collard. Elizabeth Quinn posted shutouts No. 7, 8, and 9 in net.

THURSDAY:
Oswego East (8-3-1, 3-1) topped Plainfield East 2-1 in a Southwest Prairie Conference game, getting goals from Justine Lee and Brittany Brewer, with Megan Ross assisting on both goals.

Waubonsie Valley (5-4) won 2-1 over Fremd on goals from Rachael Brots' fourth goal of the year and Mackenzie Fuller's first, on assists from Megan Green and Caroline Soyars, with Jordan Myers getting the win in net.

Plainfield North (10-2-2) won 9-0 over Romeoville with Ashley Handwork and Shayna Dheel posting two goals and an assist each in the win. The Tigers also got a goal and an assist apiece from Katie Cox and Callie O'Donnell, a goal apiece from Paulina Caratachea, Sofi Quezeda, and Carlie Corrigan, while Nikki Auble and Ashley Auble had an assist each.

Carmel (5-4-1, 3-2) won 2-0 over Fenwick in an East Suburban Catholic match in Oak Park. Kelly Trillhaase and Sarah McHugh scored for the Corsairs, Maggie Karich assisted on McHugh's goal, and keeper Katie Larson made 12 saves in the team's fifth shutout of the season and second in a row.

Crystal Lake South (7-5-2) won 2-1 over Niles North in opening-round play of this year's Glenbrook South tournament, getting a goal apiece from Christina Szocka and Cella Albuquerque and a pair of assists from Kali Loescher.

Oak Park and River Forest (8-3-1, 2-1) won 2-0 over Downers Grove North thanks to a pair of Shelby Cozette assists and goals from Emily Gullo and Sarah McCall.

Lincoln-Way West (2-7-1) lost 2-1 to Stagg, getting a free kick goal from Kylie Hermanson.

WEDNESDAY:
Glenbard East (4-4-3) won its opening- round game of the Niles West Tournament against Resurrection by a score of 5-1. The Rams got off to a quick start when Lindsey Paganucci buried a rebound from 12 yards off of an Erin Mrazek shot. Erin Mrazek then found Megan Nelson who hit a shot from just outside the 18 for her first career varsity goal. The Rams finished off the first half with a short corner where Lindsey Paganucci found Sadie Moore who headed it in from the far post. In the second half, Lindsey Paganucci scored her second goal on a feed from Jessie Grumstrup. Erin Mrazek rounded out the scoring with a 22 yard left footed free kick. -- Coach Kent Overbey

Crystal Lake South (6-5-2, 5-1)
got two goals and an assist from Kali Loescher and one goal apiece from Ellen Brunner, Faith Brunner, Karli Schumaker, and Christina Szocka in a 6-0 Fox Valley Conference win over Johnsburg (2-9, 1-4). The Gators got two assists from Alex Romano and one apiece from Mackenzie Taldone and Audrey Collard. Keeper Elizabeth Quinn had three saves in her 6th shutout of the year.

Metea Valley (10-5-1) got a goal from Kristina Tomares and two goals from Alyssa Fox in a 3-0 win over South Elgin, with keepers Megan Geldernick and Kiley Dunning sharing the Mustangs' 8th shutout of the year. Jenna Kentgen also chipped in an assist in the win.

Hinsdale South (6-4, 2-0) won 1-0 over West Suburban Gold rival Leyden, with Brittney Noble scoring off a Jaime Walker assists and Vanessa Niestrom in net for the team's third shutout of the season.

Naperville Central (8-4-1) won 2-0 over Palatine in opening-round play of the Naperville Invitational, getting goals from Meredith McEniff and Nicole Ramberg and assists from Krissy Many and Natalie Selk. Keeper Jill D'Amico made four saves in the Redhawks' sixth shutout of the season.

Waubonsie Valley (4-4) won 4-0 over Hinsdale Central (5-5-2) in Naperville Invitational play at Naperville North. Rachael Brots scored her 3rd and 4th goals of the year in the win, the Warriors got goals from Megan Green and Shannon Donelson, and assists from Emi Yamamoto, Mackenzie Fuller, and Jenna Romano.

TUESDAY:
Downers Grove South (11-1-1, 3-0) won 7-0 over Addison Trail in a West Suburban Gold contest. Keri Kujawa had a hat-trick and Flo Beshiri had three assists on the day and the Mustangs got goals from Jessica Bronke, Jess Pikul, Stephanie Zurales, and Megan Martin. Martin had a pair of assists and Sarrah Ludwig also chipped in an assist in the Mustangs' ninth shutout of the season.

Glenbard West (4-6-3, 1-2) lost 2-1 to York in a West Suburban Silver match, with Lauren Davis assisting on a Kaitlin Moore goal for the Hilltoppers.

 

MONDAY:
Neuqua Valley (12-0, 4-0) won 3-0 over visiting Bartlett (6-4-3, 1-2-1) in an Upstate Eight Conference game in Naperville. Megan Oyster opened the scoring mid-way through the first half on a free kick goal, and Hope D'Addario curled in a corner kick less than a minute later. Alexa Wilde finished on a D'Addario corner kick in the second-half. Bartlett keeper Natalia Grodzki made six quality saves in net for the Hawks against an unbeaten Neuqua team that has earned a 53 to 6 edge in goals against opponents this season.

Fremd (8-1, 6-1) won 10-0 over Wheeling in Palatine, with keepers Shannon Norris and Rachel Tenuta sharing in the Vikings' fifth shutout of the season. Elise Kotsakis had 2 goals and 2 assists and Fremd also got 2 goals apiece from Bri Frys and Alexis Tice in the win. Rebecca Freeman, Kelsey Beschta, Bree Nishibun, and Nicole Obos also scored in the win, with assists coming from Obos, Morgan Delapa, Ashley McConnell, and Bekah Bostrom.

Prospect (6-4-1, 2-3-1) won 1-0 over Hoffman Estates on a Megan Hood goal off an assist from Jesse Petrovski. The MSL victory marked the Knights' sixth shutout for keeper Megan McCabe.

Host Plainfield Central (4-6-1) won 5-2 over Providence, with Bailey Wysocki posting a hat-trick and the Wildcats getting a goal apiece from Sami Jensen and Shawna Watson. Wysocki, Britney Lenza, Lauren Kulaga, and Adabel Ortega all had assists in the win.

Conant (9-0, 6-0) stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 win over Buffalo Grove at home, and the Cougars last six wins have come against MSL foes. Kelsey Foss scored on a penalty in the first half and Courtney Raetzman scored off an assist from Courtney O'Keefe late in the second half to secure the win for Conant. Goalkeeper Lindsay Fillinigim picked up her 6th shutout of the year.

Glenbard East (3-4-3, 1-3-1) won 1-0 over host Glenbard North in a DuPage Valley Conference contest, thanks to 5 saves from Veronica Fairbairn in the team's third shutout of the season, and a 30-yard free kick goal off the foot of Jessie Grumstrup.
